Serum copper, ceruloplasmin and monoamine oxidase in diabetics with different times of evolution of the disease.

چکیده
Ia 103 diabetics simultaneous measurements of serum copper and ceruloplasmin were made, together with the determination of glucose, cholesterol and monoamine oxidase. These diabetics were divided ia two groups: 53 had a diagnosis made iess than two years ago, and 50 had diabetes diagnosed for more than 10 years. A contrcil group consisted in 50 normal individuaIs. Copper and ceruloplasmin of diabetic sera are more elevated than in normal individuais. This elevation is statistically significant. There is a positive correiation between copper and ceruloplasmin, both in normal individuals and in diabetics. Serum copper is more elevated in diabetics with iess than two years of evolution than in diabetics with more than 10 years of evolution. The opposite happens with serum monoamine oxidase. Serum cholesterol is not significantiy eievated in diabeti~s.

Relationship between serum copper & ceruloplasmin level and dependence on sample
The correlation between the serum level of copper and ceruloplasmin was determined among sarcheshmeh copper workers and compared with Kerman blood bank diners samples. Serum copper was analyzed by atomic absorption spectrophotometry and ceruloplasmin was determined by a caloric enzymatic assay. The concentration of serum copper in the test group was 93+_20.4 mg/ DL which was significantly lower...
متن کاملStudies on the oxidase properties of ceruloplasmin: factors in normal and Wilson's-disease serum affecting oxidase activity.
The oxidase activity of normal serum is due to the presence of the blue copper protein, ceruloplasmin. This is an a-globulin of molecular weight 151,000 containing 8 copper atoms per molecule (1). Its physiological substrate, if any, is unknown (2), but it has a weak oxidase activity for compounds that can be oxidized to quinone or quinone imines (3). The copper atoms in the protein appear to b...
متن کاملProof for the Ascorbate Oxidase Activity of Ceruloplasmin.
The ascorbate oxidase activity of ceruloplasmin has been a subject of controversy because of (a) the relatively low oxidase activity of this serum copper protein toward ascorbic acid and (b) the different conclusions reached by several investigators. In 1951, Holmberg and Laurel1 (1) reported that ascorbic acid was a substrate of ceruloplasmin although it was less active as a substrate than p-p...
متن کاملSTUDY OF THE EFFECT OF RESIDUAL CHLORINE ON SERUM IRON AND RELATED PARAMETERS
The major purpose of the present investigation was to study the effects of different concentrations of residual chlorine on serum iron related parameters in rats. Feeding male rats with water containing 80 ppm of residual chlorine daily for 5 days reduced serum levels of ceruloplasmin, copper, iron and hemoglobin by approximately 27%,23%,6% and 4%, respectively. Higher reductions in serum ...

In order to measure serum copper concentration, 163 adult males working at different units of copper plant from a total population of 671, were selected by simple random sampling. Eighty three subjects working at melting foundry, 49 in extrugen- rolling and 31 at administrative service untils. Eighty four adult male natives of Kerman and it's suburbs were randomly choosen as control group, seru...
